Legislators follow up on office space utilization agreement in the 2024 budget.
Some members of the Senate Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee requested a review of the Small Business Administration’s (SBA) use of office space, writing a letter to the SBA inspector general.
As part of the agreement that passed the 2024 federal budget, agencies using less than 60 percent of their current office space must inform Congress how they plan to reduce their unused square footage. This letter follows up in an effort to reduce spending on expensive and underutilized office space.
“We request your office assess the SBA’s office space utilization as part of your role in providing independent, objective, and timely oversight of the SBA,” they wrote. The legislators asked that the SBA inspector general not just review the use of its headquarters space “but also review the agency’s footprint and workforce in its field offices across the country.”
